Snoop Dogg has credited his daughter Cori’s battle with lupus with bringing the rapper closer to his wife Shante, insisting the life-threatening illness helped to save their faltering marriage.
The rap superstar, real name Calvin Broadus, filed for divorce from his wife of seven years in 2004, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple reunited months later, prompting Snoop to withdraw the legal petition, and they renewed their vows in 2008. Snoop admits the turning point in their relationship came when young Cori was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2005 – and her subsequent health battle made the hip-hop star and his wife realize they had to stay “together forever.”

Shante tells People magazine, “Without (Snoop), I don’t know what I’d have done. It’s amazing how this all turned out. We were gonna get a divorce. But we wouldn’t have gotten through it (the lupus diagnosis) that way.” Snoop adds, “That’s what it boiled down to. Cori’s lupus showed us we need to be together forever.”

The rapper reveals the couple had turned to a marriage counselor to help them overcome their troubles and he would often escape to the recording studio to cry and gather his emotions. He says, “You always think it’s gonna happen to someone else. Some days in the studio, I’d just cry. It was the only zone I had to express myself.”

However, he’s in awe of how strong Cori, now 11, has been throughout the health crisis – despite struggling with the side effects of the disorder, which caused her hair to fall out and affected her weight. Snoop explains, “My daughter is the love of my life. When she’d lay in bed saying, ‘My brain hurts’, it bothered me so much. I felt helpless… (But) she’s the toughest little thing I’ve ever met, even with the needles.”

And Cori has managed to keep her lupus under control to enjoy a normal childhood. Her proud father adds, “She’s on the honour roll, playing volleyball and softball, living life. She has all this joy. In the beginning lupus was winning. But now Cori is.”

Snoop Dogg is surely reinventing the phrase “living large” as the rapper wants to rent an entire country for a video shoot.

With his eyes set on the nation of Liechtenstein, having the size comparable to Staten Island, the deal placed on the table was skewed due to time constraints.

According to the NYPost, however, the pure idea of such a thing was too hilarious to be taken seriously by the nation’s government.

“There is no ‘For Rent’ sign on our country,” ambassador Claudia Fritsche said. “No part of any government agency is involved in this.”

Karl Schwaerzler, a property manager of Liechtenstein, insisted that the rapper wanted to rent all 61 square miles of the nation for a video shoot.

“We’ve had requests for places and villages but never one to hire the whole country before,” he said. “It would have been possible, but Snoop Dogg’s management did not give us enough time.”

Schwaerzler’s particular business specializes in “brokering deals between European villages and corporations to stage large-scale events where companies ceremonially rent the entire community”.

Liechtenstein’s ambassador to the United States merely seemed to get a kick out of the notion as their was more laughter than hostility once alerted.

There have been no comments issued from the camp of Snoop in regards to the property “for rent”.

Snoop Dogg was finally granted access back to the United Kingdom.   The ban was originally placed on the rapper after he and his entourage engaged in a 2006 scuffle at London’s Heathrow Airport.

Snoop was also accused of using insulting words, for which he was detained and then later released.  In March 2007,  Snoop had hoped to return to the UK for a performance as well as being a spokesperson at an event to battle youth violence.

Immigration authorities in the UK refused to grant him a visa, and cited the airport scuffle, as well as prior U.S. convictions as a deter.  This triggered a legal battle to overturn the decision, and in February of 2010 it was ruled that Snoop played a minor role in the Heathrow scuffle.

In February two senior immigration judges said Snoop played a “relatively minor” role in the Heathrow melee, which was “precipitated” by decisions made by airline staff and the police. Of his U.S. convictions, they said the fact that the punishment he received was probation and community service was an indication of “the degree of significance attached to them.”

Last month, Snoop applied for the temporary visa allowing him to perform at the concerts in the U.K. over the coming weeks.

A spokesman for the U.K.’s border agency confirmed that the visa had been granted, adding only: “Each application into the U.K. is considered on its individual merits.”

In the latest issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine, Shante Broadus graces the cover. She breaks down what it’s like to be Snoop’s wife and what life was like when her marriage was on the road to divorce.

Jamie: There was a tough a time for you all – and I think Snoop got lost – when you all were talking about the divorce. It was so much coming at him. And he even asked you what he should do.

Shante: Yeah [laughs] Girl, he didn’t know. You’re trying to leave me and you’re asking me what you should do? So he didn’t know, it was just a lot. And you know I understand. It’s hard for me and I’m just his wife. He’s actually the star.

Jamie: Why is it hard for you?

Shante: Because people look at me and think, “Ooh, she’s married to Snoop.: They think of me as some other person and I’m so not that person. It’s only people that don’t know me, of course. But I think it’s jealousy. That’s all I can think because I haven’t done anything to anybody but taking care of my kids and being a wife to my husband.

Jamie: But he had all those women around. He had that TV show. That was a lot of pressure. That’s a lot of pressure on most men.

Shante: It is pressure. I mean, these women, they’re out here trying to take something home. So they’re not playing.

Jamie: Does he discuss that with you? Like, “this happened to me or this woman tried to do that or say that”?

Shante: Well, if he is coming to me talking about it, he didn’t do or say nothing.

Jamie: How long have you been married?

Shante: 13 years as of June.

Jamie: So has the love light gone out or are we just used to one another now and just look at each other?

Shante: We’re used to one another. I mean, it sucks that his job requires him to be gone a lot, but I would prefer that than my husband here all the time broke and in my face. [laughter] So, it works out. We’re older now and I know that he’s not going anywhere, I’m not going anywhere. We’re here.

Jamie: What did Snoop say to the kids when he came back? How did he explain that? Because sometimes it’s good to show vulnerability, that parents are parents but they’re not perfect.

Shante: Right. Again, when he came back, we had the talk. And my mom was a part of it. He was just letting them know the he was sorry and what it’s like to live his life as an entertainer and it was hard and he thought that was what he wanted and that’s not what he wanted. And he told them why he came back, because he loved me and them and this is what he really wanted to do, be a family.

Snoop Dogg and Shante were going through a divorce about 5 years ago and made it through it, but what does that say for the chick Snoop was seen kicking it with overseas??? Maybe Shante just accepts that as apart of Snoop’s lifestyle as an entertainer…
