When I asked about his tot’s mum, he said: “I have a friend. Not a girlfriend. She’s carrying my child but knows I can’t commit. She doesn’t mind other women.”

CNN: That’s because you have money and you have fame. What’s left but love?

Ne-Yo: I’m one of the few who have been fortunate enough to have both. I acquired money, power and fame through my love — my love for music. I get on my knees and I thank God every day that I’m one of the people blessed to be able to do what I love.

CNN: I have to ask about the baby you’re having.

Ne-Yo: I’m going to have my first child in January. I’m terrified, I’m gonna be all the way honest. I’ve never seen myself as a father, you know what I mean? I knew eventually I would get married and have kids and all of that stuff. By the way, the marriage rumors aren’t true. Let’s clear that up. I’m not engaged, I’m not to be married. But the baby rumor is true.

CNN: Are you terrified because you didn’t have a male role model in your own life growing up?

Ne-Yo: My mom was my mom and my dad. I didn’t need the male role model. I figure if I do it the way my mom did it, then my kid is going to be fine.

CNN: Is your kid going to be living the baby “Champagne Life?”

Ne-Yo: No. I’m going to teach my child the value of a dollar. The “Champagne Life” can mean you’re just living what the good life is to you. So in that form, yes, my child will definitely be living the “Champagne Life

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Ne-Yo stated that although the incident was “terrible,” people should let the pop singer move forward with his career.

“Chris Brown is a talented guy,” Ne-Yo said. “He is an incredible performer and no one can take that away from him. I think that for some reason it is taking the world too long to forgive this guy”

Ne-Yo also revealed that he grew up in a home where domestic violence occurred daily and still harbors no resentment toward the singer.

“I know what that world is,” Ne-Yo said. “I grew up in a house where my mom was abused all the time. I know how terrible it is, but I also know that forgiveness is divine and we really need to forgive him and move on.”

Ne-Yo, 30, is about to become a first-time father.

EBONY sat down with the singer-songwriter at a super exclusive photoshoot planned to help promote his upcoming album Libra Scale. Ne-Yo, who is preparing to attend the ASCAP Awards Friday night in Beverly Hills, talked about how he had traveled home to Atlanta to get some news about the baby.

He had to come home so he could make the first ultrasound visit with his girlfriend. There’s no word on the sex of the baby because the tiny tot curled up in a ball, leading Ne-Yo to joke that his future progeny is “stubborn.” But, he added, “They didn’t get that one from me.”

The star, whose album is due on September 21, is excited about meeting his first child in January.

“I am 30 and I do have my first child on the way, and I’m very, very, very excited about that,” he tells EBONY. “It’s a New Year’s baby and I’m just in a really good place right now.”
